Taapsee Pannu, recently, left everyone mesmerised with her transformation, as seen in a campaign for an athleisure brand. "Yes, it takes a lot of belief, not just your own but also people who are pushing you in this journey. My two pillars of strength who made sure I don’t give up," Taapsee wrote on Instagram while talking about her journey and thanking her fitness trainer Sujeet Kargutkar and nutritionist Munmun Ganeriwal who helped her achieve her goals.

Now Ganeriwal, who has been planning her diet for many years, opened up about Taapsee's transformation -- which took four months -- in an exclusive interaction with indianexpress.com.

"We started in the mid of November 2022 and the video (for the brand) was shot in March 2023," shared Ganeriwal, adding that the focus was to work on her "belly and abs".

"Initially, when we started, she would have a proper dinner -- comprising roti or rice -- at 8 pm. Before that, an evening snack included a light smoothie or a sandwich. But, owing to the supplements she was taking, her hunger got regulated and she started feeling really hungry in the evenings. So, a sandwich was not enough and an egg dosa and sambar, or a sourdough bread, or a paneer chilla was introduced to satiate her cravings," shared Ganeriwal.

Breakdown of her diet

Breakfast was always light -- a smoothie or an oats porridge or a millet porridge. "At times, I would give her buttermilk with sattu (roasted gram flour) powder," Ganeriwal said, adding that lunch, on the other hand, was wholesome. "It was a non-vegetarian fare, which included meat or poultry like chicken or eggs paired with a millet or amaranth roti," she continued.

For dinner, Taapsee would have something light as the evening meal would be satisfying for her. "She was eating from sunrise to sunset. It was not done consciously or by measuring calories. There was no intermittent fasting. Sunrise to sunset eating is what Ayurveda teaches us. This is the real way of eating," said Ganeriwal, adding that the duo often discussed the actor's "Ayurvedic transformation".

Recalling that during the period she was also shooting for Haseen Dilruba 2 in Nainital, Ganeriwal shared that she used a lot of "Indian spices" which helped the actor keep her body's metabolism high. "I told her to have sukku kaapi, a dry ginger herbal drink, in Nainital to keep her metabolism going," she mentioned.

Since her character demanded a "sensuous, seductive, and sultry" appeal, it was absolutely "aesthetically" required that she looks her best. "So, I advised her to have ajwain or carom seeds water, seven days before periods to avoid menstrual bloating as the female body retains water during periods. She would have ajwain water till her periods lasted. Rather than doing it on an empty stomach, she would sip on it throughout the day. This immensely helped her play the part," Ganeriwal recounted.

Ganeriwal, who doesn't personally push for protein supplements, made Taapsee have "other kinds of amino acids like glutamine supplements".

And as far as her diet was concerned, since Taapsee likes to have non-vegetarian food, Garneriwal said that "the only tweak" that she otherwise doesn't include was to make her have a non-vegetarian lunch. "She would have chicken, or fish, or eggs every day. But no red meat at all as it is pro-inflammatory in nature," she said.

Lauding Taapsee's commitment, Ganeriwal expressed, "Her dedication, and determination are noteworthy. A transformation is not easy to think about, especially for women as they are biologically made in a way to store more fat than men. So, it is not really easy. I definitely laud her courage."

Workout

Ganeriwal also shed light on Taapsee's fitness routine, even when she is travelling for work or on a holiday.

"Even when she is travelling for work, she works out just like in Mumbai. There are no breaks taken," she said. But when on a holiday, the workout is not the same. Nevertheless, she opts for some sort of workout like cardio or long hikes. She keeps herself physically active," said Ganeriwal.

Stressing that six-pack ab or any transformation is not forever, Ganeriwal said, "Nobody can carry six-pack ab 24*7, 365 days a year. She is aware that this is only for a short period of time. Even when she decided on her goals, she was very well aware that it was a temporary scenario. That awareness has to be there," said Ganeriwal, who also said that everyone has abs, some just need to 'burn fat' to make them visible.
