Kartik Aaryan surprised his fans when he underwent a massive physical transformation for his movie, Chandu Champion. The actor essayed the role of Murlikant Petkar – India’s first Paralympic gold medalist in 1972. In a recent interview, the actor revealed how he managed to get the athlete’s physique.
In a conversation with Indian Express’ Screen, Kartik Aaryan revealed how achieving Murlikant Petkar’s body was not an easy task. He mentioned that it took him a year and a half to achieve this physique. He added how fixing his sleep schedule was the first thing that helped him achieve his fitness goal. He said, “I was an insomniac before. My sleeping pattern during filming was – I used to go to sleep at 10:30 pm and wake up at 6:30 or 7 am. You need a minimum of 8 hours of sleep.”
Apart from fixing his sleep schedule, Aaryan mentioned how he focused on his diet and made major changes to what he ate. He said, “Every person will say this – your body and your abs are built in the kitchen rather than the gym. It [diet] was the most important part of my journey of 1.5 to 2 years, which included cutting out sugar, eating less gluten, consuming bare minimum carbs, and eating more protein.”
The actor thanked his team for their unwavering support. He mentioned how he followed a monotonous diet but the results that were showing made him stick to it. He continued, “I was like a machine at that point in time. If I was having tomato soup at night, I ate it for a whole year and a half. My life became a little monotonous, but the results were so amazing that it made me feel motivated to achieve my goal.”
He added how he did not indulge in cheat meals while he was preparing for Chandu Champion. The actor mentioned that he decided to stick to his diet despite being a huge foodie. He revealed that he brought his body fat to seven percent for the movie.
In the same interview, the actor advised people to not follow any diet fads but to make changes to their lifestyle and incorporate healthy habits.
