Unfortunately for a young woman named Gran Canaria, an effort to get a light summer tan result in sun poisoning. Although she had at first thought that it was sunburn, the symptoms worsened over time only to be diagnosed as sun poisoning.

Shortly after suffering from an alleged sunburn, things started to get worse and forehead started to well followed by her eyes and face so much that she should barely open her eyes. What is sun poisoning?

Sun poisoning refers to a severe sunburn which occurs when the skin is exposed to the ultraviolet rays of the sun for an extended period of time. Also known as a polymorphic light eruption, its extent can vary depending on one’s sensitivity to the sun. It requires treatment in order to avoid the risk of complications.

What are the symptoms of sun poisoning?

The classic symptoms of sun poisoning, apart from the ones consistent with a sunburn, include the following:

  3. Nausea
  4. Fainting
  5. Pain
  6. Peeling skin
  7. Fever
  8. Chills
  9. Severe redness of skin
  10. Dizziness
  11. Fainting
  12. Headaches

Doctors recommend always applying a sunscreen 30 minutes before going out, even on cloudy days. On days when one is sweating or goes swimming, apply a sun protection formula every 2-3 hours.
