‘I AM SO PLEASED I FAILED’: AUTHOR SHARES MENTAL HEALTH RECOVERY JOURNEY IN TOUCHING TWITTER POST

In a wholesome thread Twitter thread, author and motivational speaker Zoe Burnett shared about her struggles with mental health issues, more specifically from suicidal thoughts and behaviour. In the now-viral post, Burnett posted a selfie that showed her holding a glass of wine and smiling into the camera. It appears that she is at a party.

While sharing this seemingly unassuming photo, Burnett wrote, “Just over 4 years ago, I tried to end my life. Tw. Sui*ide I repost this picture every year, this was the last picture taken of me before my attempt. I look so happy, carefree & full of life. What many did not realise was how much I was raging a war with myself.”

In the subsequent tweets, Burnett shared her feelings of self-loathing and said the “quick thinking of a friend” who acted on his gut instinct saved her life.

Burnett said since then she has recovered a great deal and now has a “different job, new hobbies & finally living authentically”. In a concluding tweet, she wrote, “For all those struggling, I know it is a cliche but do hold on. Talk to....those you love and keep communicating. You never know what your life could look like in a few years time. I am so pleased I failed.”

This post has since gathered over 23,000 likes. In the comments, many people shared their own recovery stories from mental health struggles.

A Twitter user wrote, “I love this and I love that you are a survivor! You survived to help other people who feel like all of those horrible things you felt about yourself are relevant to them. Thank you for sharing your story. I've been there myself and when you're at your lowest, you want to give up and I'm thankful I didn't. My life isn't perfect but I've come a long way. ”.
