Spotlight ~ Lisa Proctor ~ Makeup Artist

~With all the vendors to line up for your wedding day a makeup artist might be the last thing on your mind.
Maybe you’ve even considered it but decided it’s too frivolous.
Whoa girl…hold up!
You’ve searched and searched for the right photographer to get the pictures of a lifetime haven’t you? So think again!
Hop on line & search the local makeup artists in your area. Give them a call & ask every question that pops in your head. If you think the fit is right ask to meet them to see their portfolio. Be sure & tell the artist if the wedding is being held inside or out, how you’re planning to wear your hair, and even about that favorite lipstick you want to wear.
Look for someone who can answer all your questions, no matter how many & don’t forget to ask for referrals!
Hiring a professional will make you feel pampered & relaxed. And why not make it a relaxing afternoon for all of the girls?
You and your bridesmaids sipping on wine, soft music in the background, nibbling on delicate little canapes while an artist makes you beautiful! Now how wonderful is that! And why not go ahead and ask a manicurist to join the mix…aahhh heaven!
~One very busy makeup artist in the Nashville area is Lisa Proctor. I asked Lisa if she would offer advice to Brides.
Here are a few tips straight from a pro…

~Wedding Day Makeup Do’s & Don’ts~

One of the first mistakes that brides make is thinking that their everyday makeup is right for their big day.  However, the makeup you wear everyday is not the best choice for your walk down the aisle.  So before taking your vows, do your homework about what I think is one of the most important items on your wedding to-do list….MAKEUP, get it right for the photos that will last a lifetime!!!

DO have a facial once a month leading up to your wedding day to make sure that your skin is the best it can be for a beautiful foundation.
Proper planning will make a flawless canvas to work on
DO keep your skin looking dewy and fresh by keeping it hydrated starting now by drinking plenty of water daily
DO start using moisturizer if you don’t.
You don’t have to purchase expensive brands some of the best are the least expensive ones on the market today
DO seek advice from a skin care professional of Dermatology if you have issues with your skin with breakouts

DON’T get carried away with shimmer highlighters or light-refractive makeup.
In photos your shimmer can easily turn into an unflattering reflective shine making your beautiful skin look very oily and shiny
DON’T get too much sun before your wedding.  Sunburns, peeling skin and tan lines can sabotage your special day
DON’T use a heavy pressed powder to set your foundation.
Too much powder can leave your skin looking chalky and lifeless in your wedding photos
DON’T use heavy pencils or dark shadows to define your brows. This can leave you looking stern rather than stunning

There are many Do’s & Don’ts but, my most important DO & DON’T is:

DO hire a makeup professional for your entire wedding party.  It’s just as important at the wedding cake.  Trust me not everyone in your wedding party knows how to apply makeup or do they know that their foundation does not match their skin tones.  You need a cohesive and overall planned look to your wedding party and you will only get this by hiring a professional makeup artist.  You may look radiate and beautiful but all eyes will look at your Maid of Honor who looks orange do to the fact that she doesn’t know how to match her foundation.   Do you want all eyes on you or her?  You be the judge.

DON’T think of hiring a makeup professional at the last minute make it one of the first things on your list.

Great advice – thanks Lisa!

A big fat yes to the facials. I got them regularly for 3 months before my wedding and it made such a difference!

I think that hiring a makeup artist for your wedding day is a fabulous idea for brides… especially if they are hiring a professional wedding photographer and/or videographer! A makeup artist that specializes in weddings will know exactly how to make a bride’s makeup look fabulous in front of the camera.
